Dover Studio Collective celebrates Fête de l’estampe

A collective of Dover-based artists and their guests are opening up their studio building to the public again, presenting both complete and in-progress print-based work across their active workspaces. The event, part of the sixth Fête de l’estampe festival, will bring together contemporary print and artists’ books and aims to present an expansive view / idea of what print can be. All are welcome to visit this free studio event and no pre-booking is required.

Saturday/samedi 26/5: 11.00-17.00h
Sunday/dimanche 27/5: 11.00-17.00h

Over the years, the success of this festival has made it an unmissable event in the cultural calendar. With the support of the French ministry of Culture, La Fête de l’estampe provides a festive opportunity for many to discover this rich art that includes lithography, engraving, serigraphy, artists’ books and even digital prints. Submissions invited for ‘Poetry Is’

‘Poetry Is’ is a project undertaken in conjunction with the Deal Festival of Music and the Arts 2015.
The essence of this project is not just poetry as a discipline,
but poetry as a life-view: expressed artistically.
The whole world talks poetry; it is only we who, with elaborate ingenuity
manage to talk prose.
(G.K. Chesterton)

The Book
The heart of the project is a unique book, 12” Square, entitled POETRY IS
to be displayed on a lectern at the centre of an exhibition.
Each double page spread will be the unique work of an artist, writer, poet or a collaboration.
There will be no commercial aspect to the Poetry Is Book.
Its existence is to show that monetary value is not the only criteria for creative expression.
There are no fees for inclusion nor fees paid.
The book will not be sold, but given to an appropriate body, with the
proviso that, if it changes hands, it will again be given not sold.

The Light Before Christmas illuminates Folkestone’s Creative Quarter

As the days get shorter and the evenings darker, the Light Before Christmas prepares to illuminate Folkestone’s Creative Quarter…

On Saturday the 20th December there will be an illuminated procession through the streets of Folkestone, down into the harbour market square for a lively arts market where illuminations, music and performances will entertain you on this festive evening. The artist made trees will gather into an assorted forest beneath an illuminated array of paper lanterns in and around the harbour market square. Visitors will also be invited to light up a large metal tree sculpture on the evening with small magnetic lights to raise money for charity. The event will then conclude with Fireworks at 8.15pm.
