Reflections on the Landscape: Against the Tide

24/25 February 2018 10 – 6pm
River Garage Studios, River Street, River, Kent CT17 0RB

Reflections on the Landscape: Against the tide will be the inaugural exhibition held at the recently opened River Garage Studios. The exhibition will show work from nine artists based in Dover.
Each artist voluntarily submitted work to be included in the exhibition. The only criteria for their selection was that they lived and worked in Dover and the surrounding area. As a result their work has been influenced by the unique visual and cultural history of the town.
Dover is moulded by its tide, a place always bringing in new life and ideas, as well as a place shaped and defined by its history. It is a town as relevant today as it has ever been.
Through bringing these artists together we can reflect on the influence of place and environment on their work; whether economic, cultural, visual or ecological.

Exhibiting artists:
Kate Beaugie – Joseph Black – Drew Burrett – Samuel Capell – Paul Dagys –
Benjamin Hunt – Joanna Jones – Clare Smith – Mike Tedder

Curated by Joseph Black and Louise Webb
Free entry.

If you are following the Deal EKOH trail, of just fancy popping by for a chat, do come and join me for a coffee at the studio. There will be a variety of artwork on display within the studio during this open event, including collages, print and photography, together with a selection of art cards.
I will be working on a series of postcards for exhibition in Deal this November plus a small series of 8 page artist books made from a single sheet of A3 paper for a forthcoming December show in Philadelphia.

67 Astley Avenue, (Unit 2) Dover CT16 2PL
Opening times for both days will be 11-5pm – Free entry, free coffee.

Entering Dover via the A2 from the North, 4th exit off the Whitfield roundabout, continue down into the town, past Buckland Mill onto the one way system. Astley Avenue will be a left-hand turn off Barton Road after two sets of traffic lights. Continue up Astley Avenue to top and turn into yard just before railway bridge. Although parking is limited on site, there is plenty of parking available within 50 meters, just beyond the railway bridge. There is a bus stop near the end of Astley Avenue (routes 15/87/88/89/60), and the studio can be reached on foot 1-2km or taxi from either Dover railway station or ferry terminal.

East Kent Artists’ Open Houses

I am excited to be showing in East Kent Artists’ Open Houses for the first time this year. Although my studio is situated in Dover I am sharing the Deal Trail with some of my SEAS colleagues.

14th/15th, 21st/22nd & 28th/29th October 2017
11am – 5pm (unless stated)

Welcome to East Kent Artists’ Open Houses 2017 or EKOH for short. Now in its 16th year, EKOH has gone from strength to strength with more artists than ever, over 200 spread over 67 houses and studios. We are also delighted to include Margate, Cliftonville and Deal and hope to extend our range around Kent’s Creative Coast.

The artists’ trail gives the public a personal insight into how an artist works within their specialised field. It opens up a wealth of information and interest to pave the way for making new contacts and discovering opportunities for anyone interested in taking up new fields of creativity. The trail is your chance to visit artists in their homes, to speak to them in person about their work and to find out what is happening in your local area. This is a rare opportunity to experience a diverse array of high quality work in a relaxed setting; with so many venues to choose from there should be something for everyone. So, plan your trip and prepare to be inspired and surprised.
All houses are open weekends during the festival.

Art Market Maidstone

If you are in the Maidstone area later this month, why not visit the Art Market at the Lockmeadow Market Hall on September 30th, and say hello to SEAS artists Kate Baker and Mike Tedder who will be showing some of their work there.

Experience the vibrancy of the contemporary art scene on Saturday 30th September, with Maidstone’s Art Market at the town’s historic Lockmeadow Market Hall.
The Art Market is an affordable art event bringing together artists from across Kent and the South East showcasing some of the best contemporary art available.

‘Keeping true to our Maidstone roots, inspired by the historic Market and loosely based on the success of “The Art car boot fair”, the “Art Market” provides a public platform to all artists, organisations, collectives and galleries across Kent and the South East. Open to all art disciplines the Art Market gives exhibitors an opportunity to sell their work to the public, build a relationship with potential buyers, galleries and curators. With an informal approach to the fair we hope to engage a wider audience to celebrate and enjoy the arts.’
