Best wishes for 2009 🙂
Well friends and visitors, 2008 is nearly at a close, and we look forward to the new year with a certain amount of intrepidation. With massive losses on pension funds and the Pound slumped to near parity with the Euro, finances seem to be sliding from worse to worse.
My last photograph of 2008 is rather indicative of the current climate and was captured when stopping at a local cafe today for a warming coffee to combat the cold of a leaden grey afternoon. I thought the same as the seagull, finding the place deserted and closed. I just hope they are not another casualty of the economic gloom.
I have today put the finishing touches to my last artwork of 2008. The collage ‘Toujours Le Bleu se Change en Noir’ never seemed quite resolved, but I have now added the title text within the image, which balances the composition and, I feel, now enhances the atmosphere, completing the work which began some weeks ago.
‘Always blue becomes black’ is inspired by the phrase in a song by Marc Lavoine. The boy contemplates the changing of the blue sky to black, of day to night, and the number of changes that will represent his lifetime. The blue turned black long before he was born, and will continue to do so after he is gone – it is always an interesting sensation to contemplate somthing constant, such as this, that has been experienced by others for millennia before us, and will be seen by many long after our own lives have finished.
As the days get shorter and the evenings darker, the Light Before Christmas prepares to illuminate Folkestone’s Creative Quarter…
On Saturday the 20th December there will be an illuminated procession through the streets of Folkestone, down into the harbour market square for a lively arts market where illuminations, music and performances will entertain you on this festive evening. The artist made trees will gather into an assorted forest beneath an illuminated array of paper lanterns in and around the harbour market square. Visitors will also be invited to light up a large metal tree sculpture on the evening with small magnetic lights to raise money for charity. The event will then conclude with Fireworks at 8.15pm.
