Dover Studio Collective PrintFest 2019

Saturday/samedi 25/5: 11.00-17.00h and
Sunday/dimanche 26/5: 11.00-17.00h

Dover Studio Collective artists will be inviting and welcoming visitors to their Printfest and open studios weekend in late May. The artists will be presenting a show of both completed and in-progress print-based artwork displayed across their active workspaces. All are welcome to visit this free studio eventand no pre-booking is required.

A mini-print exhibition and taster workshop will also take place during the weekend. Visitors to the studio, who would like to participate, will be able to design, cut and print their own postcard format print to display or take away. (Please bring protective clothing such as an apron or old t-shirt and a small 50 pence donation would be appreciated just helping to cover material costs.)

The Dover PrintFest, mini-print exhibition and open studio event joins a network of events that are part of the 7th Fête de l’estampe taking place throughout France and Europe on May 26th.

Over the years, the success of this festival has made it an unmissable event in the cultural calendar. With the support of the French ministry of Culture, La Fête de l’estampe provides a festive opportunity for many to discover this rich art that includes lithography, engraving, serigraphy, artists’ books and even digital prints. Exhibitions, outdoor studios, training sessions, open studios, conferences, performances, auctions, and giant prints are organised in France and in many other countries in Europe on 26th May, 2019, for one day, or longer in some areas.

Dover flint maps

Flint maps – Dover topographical contour maps inspired by and in synthesis with drawings of local flint boulders from the chalk cliffs. The three flint maps relate to the chalk lanscapes of Dover Castle mount, Langdon Cliffs and the Western Heights. Acrylic paint on black Canford paper.

The flint map drawings are part of a larger design for a mural inside the new Dover Big Local Co-Innovation Project space in Dover town centre.
