Calling all Artists SEAS OPEN STUDIOS:

Are you interested in opening your studios to the public during the weekends of July? Its an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work.
This is an annual event as part of the Deal Festival of Music and Arts which has already attracted a huge following in previous years.

Applications are now open to SEAS artists wishing to take part in SEAS Open Studios 2012.

Space is a recently established independent Art Gallery and Event Space in the Creative Quarter of Folkestone, the home of contemporary art exhibition The Folkestone Triennial which forms part of the arts-led regeneration of Folkestone. Space Gallery will offer Artists, Painters, photographers and musicians a unique, versatile new venue, event space and gallery for art exhibitions and installations.

A one day opportunity for artists to exhibit and sell their work.

The concept of bite size is to create a grid system of 6”x8” pieces
of art work. Cash sales only with a set selling price of £40 per
artwork.

Open to all artists; painters, illustrators, photographers, multimedia,
sculptors, textile artists, printmakers. We are inviting artists local
to the Shepway area, no matter which genre or medium they prefer, to
submit their art work. The art work should be on paper or fabric; they will be framed, hung on exhibition stands, easily taken down, paid for and popped into a paper bag. Invigilation not necessary, just publicise, make known, broadcast, advertise and bring friends, family, royalty and neighbours.

Folkestone Art Society Autumn Exhibition:

Wednesday 9 to Sunday 20 November 2011.

Grand on The Leas (www.grand-uk.com), Folkestone.  

The exhibition opens at 10am and closes at 5pm each day. The Autumn Exhibition usually has up to 250 paintings and works of art on display and the majority of the work is for sale. The exhibition is rightly considered an important event in the arts calendar of the south-east and our previous exhibitions have drawn praise for the high standard of work exhibited.

For more than eighty years members, past and present, have been pivotal in promoting the visual arts in Folkestone and the south east. In that time we have grown both in number of members as well as in the number and quality of the works exhibited.
Many eminent artists have been past members and the membership today includes professional and semi-professional artists as well as many talented amateurs.

Entrance to the Exhibitions is free and there is ample free parking. A nominal charge is made for catalogues.

SEAS (South East ArtistS) are a group of artists and craftmakers from Deal and surrounding areas. Our aim is to actively promote the visual arts and crafts in the local community. We began as a small group of artists in January 2005 and now we have a membership of around fifty members. Anyone is welcome to join us, whether they are a practising artist or just take an interest in the Arts.

In May 2011, Lovelys launched a new contemporary exhibition space – “Edge”, upstairs in their gallery in Northdown Road, Cliftonville. It creates a new ‘edge’ to Lovelys, working alongside their continuing commitment to showcasing traditional and contemporary art.

Edge is a new concept for Lovelys, expanding upon and cherishing its 120 year heritage. It offers a continually changing collection of diverse artwork from Thanet and East Kent based professional artists who are on the periphery of national and international recognition. Edge will also focus attention on the exhibitors creative intentions, encouraging a thought provoking experience.

“QUATTUORDECIM” a collaborative book by fourteen printmakers

The project was originally conceived by Letitia Tunstall who  brought 14 printmakers together with the idea of making a collaborative artists  book entitled Quattuordecim [14]. Each artist produced 15 original prints, one for each of the  participating artists and one for exhibition. Individually the artists then bound their books using  traditional and highly original bindings. The exciting results can be seen at this exhibition together  with other work often inspired by the book.
